Recruiting Generation Alpha, Microlearning Project

Overview

This project was created for fun to showcase my skills as an instructional designer. It is a microlearning project created in Articulate Rise intended for recruitment leaders in the fictional sorority, Delta Delta Mu. They need to solve the problem of dwindling recruitment numbers due to outdated sorority practices and are aware that the next generation, Generation Alpha, will present their biggest challenge yet. However, they do not know how to approach recruiting these women into a sorority with outdated traditions that are hundreds of years old. This is a real problem that I witnessed as a recruitment leader for my sorority in college.

Keep in mind that while Delta Delta Mu doesn’t actually exist, I will be discussing this project as if it does, while also providing insight into what I would do if this were a real-life scenario. Each step of this process was done using the ADDIE model with a Universal Design for Learning framework in mind.

After identifying the problem, I worked with leadership at Delta Delta Mu to conduct a training needs analysis and created learning targets based on those needs. I outlined the content based on the learning targets. I researched information about Generation Alpha and consulted with Subject Matter Experts on the Delta Delta Mu team to ensure high-quality content was in the project. Integrated within the microlearning project are evaluations of the learning targets. In a real scenario, I would analyze the outcomes of these measures to determine the effectiveness of the project and adjust if needed.

Visual Strategy

I designed all of the visuals for this project using Canva. During the design phase, my strategy was to come up with a color palette that was vibrant, feminine, and futuristic to mirror the young women of Delta Delta Mu and Generation Alpha. The high-contrast color palette is accessible for those with low vision, which I kept in mind during the development phase. I also included alt text for each image to make the project as accessible as possible. I used elements that were inspired by technology and social media to tie into the written content. The characters were kept white with black outlines against the colorful background to stand out and as an accessibility strategy. I used a variety of characters to reflect the diversity in Gen Alpha that I learned about through my research. I repeated some elements throughout the project to keep consistency and flow.
