About Abby Lee Design

Where It All Began

I was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina where I spent a lot of my free time as a child creating PowerPoints (I know…weird, right?) on our shared family computer. Much to my sisters’ dismays, I would spend hours picking out the perfect colors, fonts, and pictures that would hopefully convince my parents that I was responsible enough for a puppy or that what I wanted for Christmas was reasonable enough for their budget. Though I wasn’t always successful, this is where my love for graphic design and presentations began.

Fast forward to college, where I studied Special Education and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I served as the Vice President of Recruitment for my sorority where I fully realized my passion for adult education. I designed and delivered instructional materials that resulted in the best recruitment my chapter had ever seen. I also started my own private tutoring business to help pay for basic necessities during this time.

After graduation, I began my career as a Special Education Teacher in the 2nd largest school district in North Carolina: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Through my time at CMS, I gained invaluable experience that shaped my framework for Instructional Design including the need for materials to be accessible to people of varying abilities.

I am now pursuing a career in Instructional Design, Learning and Development, or EdTech.
